First Aid - General Purpose Product

Skin Contact

-

Mild irritant, remove affected clothing and wash contact areas with soap and water.  Unlikely to cause harm to skin from brief or occasional contact.  Avoid prolonged or repeated contact as it may lead to dermatitis.

Eye Contact

-

May cause transient stinging or redness, rinse eye thoroughly with running water.  Seek medical attention if irritation persists.

Inhalation

-

Vapor is an irritant to mucous membranes and respiratory tract, remove person to fresh air.  Prolonged exposure to vapors can result in headaches, coughing and dizziness.  If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.  Aspiration of liquid into the lungs can cause serious injury, seek immediate medical attention.

Swallowed

-

May cause irritation to mouth, throat and digestive tract.  Do NOT induce vomiting, drink water.  Large doses may cause drowsiness abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhea.  Seek medical attention.

 

First Aid - Heavy Duty Products

Skin Contact

Powerful irritant, may cause conjunctivitis.  Immediately hold eye open and flood with water.  Seek medical attention if irritation persists.

Inhalation

Vapor is an irritant to mucous membranes and respiratory tract, remove person to fresh air.  Prolonged exposure to vapors can result in headaches, coughing and dizziness.  If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.  Aspiration of liquid into the lungs can cause serious injury, seek immediate medical attention.

Swallowed

Moderately toxic, may cause irritation to mouth, throat and digestive tract.  Will cause damage to mucous membranes, rapid breathing, headaches and dizziness, may lead to CNS depression.  Do NOT induce vomiting, give a glass of water and wash out mouth.  Call a doctor or Poisons Information Centre on 131126 immediately.

 

First Aid - Wipe Out

Skin Contact

-

Corrosive and causes severe burns.  Ethanol may be absorbed directly through unbroken skin.  If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water. Wash clothing thoroughly before re-use.

Eye Contact

-

May cause redness, pain, blurred vision. May cause immediate, severe, deep burns and permanent loss of sight. Concentrated vapour will irritate the eyes. If in eyes, hold eyelids apart and flush the eye continuously with running water. Continue flushing until advised to stop by the Poisons Information Centre or a doctor, or for at least 15 minutes.

Inhalation

-

Inhalation of ethanol vapours may cause headache, dizziness, nausea and other symptoms of central nervous system. Inhalation of aerosol (spray/mist) will irritate the respiratory system and may cause burns to the lung tissues. Aspiration into the lungs during swallowing or vomiting may cause serious lung damage,pulmonary oedema and chemical pneumonitis. Remove from exposure, rest and keep warm. Unless exposure has been slight, obtain immediate medical assistance.

Swallowed

-

Highly corrosive and ingestion can be fatal.  May cause burns to the lips, tongue, mouth, throat and stomach. May cause a burning sensation, abdominal pain, violent pain in throat and epigastrium, collapse. May cause holes in the stomach and intestines and/or scarring. The ethanol content may cause central nervous system depression, with reddening of face and neck, initial excitement followed by nausea, dizziness, incoordination, slurred speech, stupor, coma.  If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting and seek immediate medical attention.  Call a doctor or Poisons Information Centre on 131126 immediately.

 

 

 

First Aid - Protective Coatings

Skin Contact

-

Mild irritant, remove affected clothing and wash contact areas with soap and water.  Seek medical attention if soreness of skin persists or develops later.

Eye Contact

-

Irritant, may cause lacrimation and redness.  Immediately hold eye open and flood with water for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical attention.

Inhalation

-

Vapor is an irritant to mucous membranes and respiratory tract, remove person to fresh air.  Prolonged exposure to vapors can result in headaches, coughing dizziness and unconsciousness.  If symptoms persist, seek medical attention.  Aspiration of liquid into the lungs can cause serious injury, seek immediate medical attention.

Swallowed

-

Moderately toxic, may cause irritation to mouth, throat and digestive tract.  Will cause damage to mucous membranes, rapid breathing, headaches and dizziness, may lead to CNS depression.  Do NOT induce vomiting, give a glass of water and wash out mouth.  Call a doctor or Poisons Information Centre on 131126 immediately.

 

 

Fire / Explosion Hazard

Combustible products include oxides of carbon.  Extinguish using dry powder, foam, water fog or for small fires CO2.  Fires in confined spaces should be dealt with by trained personnel using breathing apparatus.

First Aid - Wall Wash

Skin Contact

-

Highly corrosive and will rapidly cause deep and penetrating burns.  Solutions containing 1 part (or more) in 10 parts of water will cause burns if not removed promptly.  Remove contaminated clothing under a safety shower and wash all areas of contact thoroughly with water.  Do not rub skin if blistering.  Seek immediate medical attention.

Eye Contact

-

Highly corrosive and will cause rapid blindness if not treated.  Flush eye immediately with large amounts of water.  Hold eylids apart and ensure flushing of entire surface of eye and lids.  Seek urgent medical attention while continuing to flush eyes.

Inhalation

-

Aspiration of spray or liquid will cause respiratory irritation with possible ulceration.  Remove patient safely from exposure, wash mouth with water and transport to nearest hospital.

Swallowed

-

Highly corrosive and ingestion can be fatal.  Rinse mouth with water, do NOT induce vomiting, drink plenty of water or milk.  Transport patient immediately to hospital.  If patient vomits, ensure airways remain clear and provide more milk or water.  Never give anything by mouth if the patient is unconcious.
